Chess sets for children in Mississippi

https://www.gofundme.com/chess-sets-for-children-in-ms

My name is John Salisbury but the kids call me coach John. I am a national expert in chess and professional chess coach. My family and I recently moved to Tupelo, Mississippi. Mississippi struggles financially and because of this, education and resources for children are not abundant. I alone can not solve these problems statewide but maybe I can make a difference in my community.  To sum up, there is not one USCF rated scholastic player in the area. I hope to change that. A chess set cost about $10. For every 10 sets donated, I will teach a public school gifted class in the area the basic rules and strategies. By giving the children sets and teaching the basics. I can organize those with interest to participate in events. Over time, chess can have a positive influence on a child's life that lasts a lifetime. New Boards

Our first shipment of new vinyl boards has arrived!

It was a challenge for our supplier to get the gold in the logo to print with precise contrast on top of the brown in the logo. And though we might tweak the logo a touch to accommodate a more precise print for the next batch, these do look pretty sweet! We are excited.  :)

Legal update: we hope to make some additional progress over the next week regarding the filings for our 501(c)(3) determination.

     Stay tuned. More to come!

Our best wishes for a productive and enjoyable Saturday. If you are rooting for a particular team today, good luck! Hope some of you remembered your umbrellas.

Location search.

We've begun the search for a permanent location. We have an idea of what we're looking for. Yes, our eyes are bigger than our plate. As we start to cull through available options, we will scale accordingly. This won't be a quick process.

     Exciting!

Coming soon!

A few of us are working to bring an organized chess environment to NE Mississippi. We are hammering out some organizational checklist items, as well as plodding through some necessary logistics. Hopefully, we'll be ready soon.

The Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Tupelo is working to organize itself as a non-profit organization, so that it may more effectively implement its educational mission of elevating the awareness of chess in our local community. Chess is a wonderful educational compliment that can help reinforce in a conscientious player important life lessons including problem solving, critical thinking, fellowship, courtesy in play, ethical sportsmanship, patience, composure and action-oriented goal setting. Plus, chess is darn good fun!

The mission of the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Tupelo will be to function as an educational organization, that will seek to develop and maintain formal programs of instruction to facilitate the learning of the game of chess and to promote and support these educational programs throughout the community, increasing the awareness of the educational and of the mindful values of the game of chess.

32 pieces on 64 checkerboard squares in an eight-by-eight grid. Your first decision: which move out of twenty available do you make? Are you ready? Choose wisely. The future victory is yours! We look forward to having you join us at the boards.

Check back with us in the Fall of 2016!
